One of the most widely used techniques involving biochemistry or molecular biology, electrophoresis is extensively used to purify and separate different types of macromolecules that may have different properties on the basis of electrical charge, macromolecular size and more. The molecules in the liquid are separated owing to the effect of the electric field on the size and electrons of the molecule.
As per a recent study by Future Market Insights on the global electrophoresis equipment and supplies market, this technique has found widespread application in research and routine chemical procedures, owing to its superior ability of quantifying and identifying even minute amounts of different kinds of biomolecules from a mixture. Electrophoresis can be effectively used to measure different properties of bio-molecules including isoelectric points, biological activity and molecular weight. With rapid advancements in design and technology, modern electrophoresis equipment and supplies are gaining innovative improvements in functionality and efficiency.
Company Promotes Intelligent Power Supply
Labnet International Inc., has revealed its wide range of Enduro electrophoresis equipment, for research and diagnostics processes for protein analysis, and blotting along with electrophoresis of DNA or RNA. Labnet’s electrophoresis power supply equipment can switch intelligently between constant amperage, constant voltage, or constant wattage, for optimizing timed or continuous operations, depending on the need of the operations. The manufacturer is also introducing advanced safety features such as automatic crossovers, detection of empty loads, and protection from excess voltage.
The newest addition to Labnet’s range of electrophoresis is a miniature 300 volt power supply and powerstack equipment. This variant of power supply provides the requisite power to run a wide range of horizontal or mini gel applications, along with being a more cost and space effective alternative. When used along with the appropriate PowerStack, the space for operations and the number of power outlets being used can be saved.
Automated Capillary DNA Separation Process Breakthrough in Electrophoresis
A system for high‐speed DNA separation with electrophoresis has been developed by the University of California. The system was created on the basis of automated, short capillary and a slotted‐vial array sample introduction systems. The process of injecting DNA samples in a short capillary was researched with three unique injection techniques such as low‐field‐strength, translational spontaneous injections and constant‐field‐strength.
Under optimized conditions, sample plugs in the capacity range of picoliters were used, which ensured the high efficiency and speed within 250s of separating DNA fragments that have short separation length in the appropriate sieving matrix concentration, effective separation length, and separation field strength.
Bio-Rad Laboratories Brings Innovations to Electrophoresis Supplies
Bio Rad Laboratories has brought forth its unique range of electrophoresis supplies and accessories including the gel dryers and gel drying solutions, for prevention of cracking during air or vacuum drying processes.
For instance, Bio-Rad’s new gel drying solution is a pre-treatment solution suitable for polyacrylamide gels to stop cracking, or swell excessively during drying processes, with just 10 minutes of equilibration.
In addition, the company’s drying system is designed to preserve agarose and polyacrylamide, through a convection process, to turn the gels clear, for ideal results from densitometry or even for long term storage, with preprogrammed and optimized protocols for drying.
