Automated Capillary DNA Separation Process Breakthrough in Electrophoresis

A system for high‐speed DNA separation with electrophoresis has been developed by the University of California. The system was created on the basis of automated, short capillary and a slotted‐vial array sample introduction systems. The process of injecting DNA samples in a short capillary was researched with three unique injection techniques such as low‐field‐strength, translational spontaneous injections and constant‐field‐strength.

Under optimized conditions, sample plugs in the capacity range of picoliters were used, which ensured the high efficiency and speed within 250s of separating DNA fragments that have short separation length in the appropriate sieving matrix concentration, effective separation length, and separation field strength.

Bio-Rad Laboratories Brings Innovations to Electrophoresis Supplies

Bio Rad Laboratories has brought forth its unique range of electrophoresis supplies and accessories including the gel dryers and gel drying solutions, for prevention of cracking during air or vacuum drying processes.

For instance, Bio-Rad’s new gel drying solution is a pre-treatment solution suitable for polyacrylamide gels to stop cracking, or swell excessively during drying processes, with just 10 minutes of equilibration.

In addition, the company’s drying system is designed to preserve agarose and polyacrylamide, through a convection process, to turn the gels clear, for ideal results from densitometry or even for long term storage, with preprogrammed and optimized protocols for drying.
